NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING

The public is hereby advised that a public meeting will be held by CARTA (Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority).
THURSDAY 10/12/23 – CARTA SuperStop Facility (Rivers Avenue @ Cosgrove Avenue, North Charleston) drop in for information and feedback between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
The purpose of this meeting is to consider possible route modifications to the Route 104.
Interested parties are invited to attend the Open House and express their views. Comments should be submitted in writing to CARTA, 5790 Casper Padgett Way, North Charleston, SC 29406 or askcarta@ridecarta.com by 10/23/23.

WEDNESDAY 10/11/23 – Clemson’s Zucker Family Graduate Education Center (1240 Supply Street, North Charleston) drop in for information and feedback between 10:00 AM to 12:00
PM.
The purpose of this Open House is to consider possible route modifications to the Route 104. Interested parties are invited to attend the Open House and express their views. Hurricane Idalia – Service Update 2

Inclement weather threat 8/30/23 UPDATE 2

In light of current weather predictions including heavy winds, CARTA officials have announced several route adjustments to begin this afternoon:

  • Rt. 30 will still operate with one vehicle on an hourly schedule.
  • Rt. 31 & Rt. 33: Buses will detour using Spring and Cannon St. to avoid the James Island Connector
  • Rt. 40: The last trip leaving Mary St. into Mt. Pleasant at 4:30pm. The last trip leaving Hungry Neck is at 5:10pm arriving at Mary St. at 5:54pm.
  • Rt. 41: Last trip leaving Mary St. at 4:30pm and will leave Stuart Engals Blvd at 5:15pm arriving at Mary St. at 5:55pm.
  • Rt. 42- Schedule runs as is.

Inclement weather threat 8/30/23 UPDATE 1

11am (8/30/23) – CARTA officials continue to closely monitor Hurricane Idalia.  At this time, all services other than the ones listed below are running as scheduled, however riders should anticipate some delays and detours, especially in flood-prone areas.  Riders are encouraged to follow us @RideCARTA on social media and check the website periodically for any announcements regarding any service updates.  Announcements and alerts will also be posted on the Transit app and Google Transit.

  • Route 203 Medical Shuttle – Service currently suspended
  • Express – PM service has been suspended

At this time service expected to resume on 08/31/23.

Route Service Day of Bridge Run – Saturday April 1, 2023

On Saturday, April 1st all routes that travel into the downtown area will be affected by road closures, detours and high volumes of traffic, expect possible delays.

  • DASH routes 210 and 211 will not start until the race is completed.  DASH 213 will run on a detour.
  • Routes 10, 11, 20, 30, 31, 33, 40, and 41 will all have detours.  Click the link below to view all detours that will be in effect until service returns to regular service after the roads are reopened.

Mt. Pleasant Service:

In order to be as efficient as possible to transport our passengers around Mt. Pleasant and to Downtown while the bridge is closed during the Bridge Run, Routes 40 and 41 will run as follows on Saturday morning 4/01/23:

  • Rt. 40 has three vehicles dedicated to it.  One bus will circulate only in the Mt. Pleasant area.  Using Towne Center as a transfer point, passengers can transfer to the other two Rt. 40 buses that will travel back and forth to the Downtown area via I526 until the completion of the race.
  • Rt. 41 will run only in Mt. Pleasant on a detour until the race is completed.  It will also stop at Towne Center as a transfer point to the Rt. 40 that will be traveling downtown.

Expect some delays on these routes until the bridge has reopened and service returns to normal.

Riders are encouraged to use the transit app and/or the Text or Call for Next Bus (843-202-4410) features for real time route information. Customer service representatives can be reached at 843-724-7420 and will be available through the chat feature located here at ridecarta.com.

Transit Equity Day – February 4th

Feb 4th is Transit Equity Day

Transit Equity Day is a National Day of Action that commemorates the importance of investing in public transit for the benefit of all citizens. It also coincides with the birthday of civil rights icon and public transit rider Rosa Parks, which is on February 4th.

Posters will be placed on the front seat of several routes to symbolically reserve a seat in honor of Rosa Parks.

 

Senior Free Ride Dates 2023

 

Senior FREE Ride Day-Annual promotion to encourage seniors (55+) to learn about the system and as a thank you to our regular senior riders.

Every year CARTA has one day per quarter that seniors riders 55+ can ride all routes for free.  This is the perfect opportunity to get some shopping done, visit friends or family or simply explore the city and our different routes.

  • Monday, February 20th (National Senior Independence Month)
  • Wednesday, May 31st (National Senior Health and Fitness Day)
  • Monday, August 21st (National Senior Citizen Day)
  • Saturday, December 16th (Happy Holidays)

CARTA Announces Free Service on Christmas Day

The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) will offer free service to all riders on Christmas Day.

The annual promotion – offered system-wide Dec. 25 – is an opportunity for CARTA to give back to its riders during the holiday season.

“It’s our pleasure each year to help our riders make the most out of their holiday by offering free Christmas Day service as our gift to you,” CARTA Board Chairman Mike Seekings said. “On behalf of all of us here at CARTA, we’re wishing everyone a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.”

Please note: CARTA services operate on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day.
