Your Phone Is Now Your Pass

The Token Transit app allows CARTA customers to purchase bus passes with their smartphones, which can then be used as electronic tickets to board buses. Customers will need to download the Token Transit App to use the mobile pay option.

To ride, the customer simply holds their phone near the Token Transit logo on the farebox to validate their pass instead of sticking a pass or cash into the farebox.

How It Works

Here’s how to pay for your CARTA pass with a mobile device, in just 4 easy steps:

1. Download
Download “Token Transit” from the Google Play Store (Android) or the Apple App Store (iPhone).

Google Play Store (Android)

Apple App Store (iPhone)

OR

You can also scan this QR code to go directly to the app store.

2. Purchase
Select a CARTA fare type, from a single ride to a monthly pass.

3. Activate
When you are ready to ride, tap your pass to activate. All passes are stored in your Token Transit account.

4. Validate
Follow instructions in the app to validate your ticket using the validator, or by showing your ticket to the Operator.

Helpful Tips

If you plan on using Token Transit for CARTA trips, here are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind:

  1. At this time, the Token Transit app must be downloaded to utilize the mobile pay services.
  2. Passes and tickets are not date specific and are non-directional. Trips are counted at the time of activation.
  3. Be sure to load your pass on your smartphone prior to the bus approaching and/or boarding CARTA.
  4. Wait until the bus approaches the stop before activating your pass. Do NOT activate until you are ready to board the bus.
  5. Digital passes expire 60 minutes after activation. The time allotted to use your pass includes your (1) free transfer. You must use your transfer within time allotted.
  6. A paper pass is still required when transferring to or from Tricounty Link.
  7. Anyone can purchase specialty passes including low income, student and Tel-A-Ride tickets. However, to use those specialty passes customers are still required to have predetermined eligibility and/or required to show a current ID to board the bus.
  8. Should you experience any technical issues with the app, please contact Token Transit, at help@tokentransit.com. CARTA customer service representatives can assist with all other questions via online chat at ridecarta.com or call 843-724-7420.
