PARTNERSHIP IS IN HONOR OF NATIONAL NURSES DAY, MAY 6
NORTH CHARLESTON (May 5, 2021) — The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) is partnering with Proterra, a battery-electric bus manufacturer and leading innovator in heavy-duty electric transportation, to offer free rides on National Nurses Day, Thursday, May 6.
The sponsorship by Proterra will allow CARTA to provide free rides on all CARTA routes to all area nurses in honor of National Nurses Day. In order for a nurse to take advantage of this opportunity, all they need to do is show their current healthcare ID and inform the driver they are a nurse on Thursday, May 6.
“Nurses are the lifeblood of our community and that has only been underscored by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said CARTA Board of Directors Chairman Mike Seekings. “We are grateful to partner with our friends at Proterra to provide this benefit as a ‘thank you’ to all nurses serving on the frontlines in our community who continue to go the extra mile every single day.”
This partnership continues the connection between CARTA and Proterra. In addition to supporting the transit needs of the region’s frontline healthcare workers, CARTA and Proterra have been working to improve the overall health of the CARTA fleet, adding six brand-new electric buses to provide a quieter and eco-friendly transit option to the community. Each Proterra ZX5 Zero Emission, Battery-Electric bus is manufactured at the Proterra facility in Greenville, S.C. and can travel up to 329 miles on just a single charge.
Nurses who plan to take advantage of this benefit can use the Transit App to plan their free ride on May 6. More information about Proterra is available at www.proterra.com.
Please note that masks are required when utilizing any CARTA service.
